Comparisons
The question pattern used to compare two things. Things that are superior
(or more) precede の ほう が and things which are inferior (or less) are followed
by より. When asking which is more that the other, the question word どちら is
used.
- ロンドン と パリと どちら が さむい です か。 - Which is colder, London or Paris?
- ロンドン の ほう が パリ より さむい です。 - London is colder than Paris
- この くるま は あの くるま より 大き です。- This cas is bigger than that car.
Favourites
Favourites are expressed using いちばん すき (the number one likeable thing).
You can indicate the group of things that the favourite should be chosen
from with the particle で, and optionally using の なか.
- スポーツ (の なか) で なに が いちばん すき です。 - Which (among) sport(s) is your favourite?
- (スポーツ の なか で) テニス が いちばん
すき です。- I like Tennis best (of all sports).
